.hack//SIGN is for intelligent people. No wonder it's so unpopular.

.hack//SIGN is one of my favorite shows ever. Not because I like anime more than regular TV (I'm looking at you, every reality TV show in existance), but because it had a very deep and intelligent plot that you had to watch the entire series to understand. I got the .hack//LIMINALITY soundtrack recently, and I proclamed how much I loved it in my MSN name, then someone IMs me: (Feel free to skip, you'll figure out what he's saying from the rest of the rant)

Session Start (webmaster@acacademy.zzn.com:iTek): Sat Nov 05 18:27:37 2005
[18:27] Tek: .hack is gay >: <
[18:28] Jacob: I'm not going to argue with you, even though you're wrong.
[18:28] Tek: Weak ass plot, horrible characters and annoying battle music
[18:28] Tek: The games were entertianing for a bit
[18:28] Tek: But the anime was horrible
[18:28] Tek: animes
[18:28] Jacob: Oh well, to each his own. I loved the anime.
[18:29] Tek: But...bah! It was a god damn guy sitting there being emo with his little key of twilight
[18:29] Tek: then some people caring about that warrior
[18:29] Jacob: Then you didn't even watch the damn thing
[18:29] Tek: I did
[18:29] Tek: He gets the Key
[18:29] Tek: He goes around
[18:29] Tek: He gets caught
[18:30] Tek: He gets out
[18:30] Jacob: Yeah, you didn't watch it far enough at all
[18:30] Tek: He then goes emo with that chick in the bed
[18:30] Jacob: No one ever figures out what the Key is
[18:30] Tek: I know
[18:30] Tek: But it's a freaking glitch or something
[18:31] Tek: Still, either way it was stupid
[18:31] Tek: The monster that followed him was the Key
[18:31] Jacob: No it wasn't.
[18:31] Jacob: The moster was just a Guardian
[18:31] Jacob: There's more than a few of them in the games
[18:31] Tek: Really, I could have sworn it was the Key
[18:31] Jacob: Hell, there's more than one guardian in the anime
[18:31] Tek: I saw like 9 episodes
[18:32] Tek: then couldn't stand it
[18:32] Jacob: Then don't act like you know they story. You have to watch the whole thing to understand it.
[18:32] Jacob: *the
[18:32] Tek: It's only 16 episodes long
[18:32] Jacob: Wrong, 26.
[18:32] Tek: Pfft
[18:33] Jacob: .hack is just something you either hate or love. I happen to love it.
[18:33] Tek: Either way, it was a slow plot, bad characters and a weak story that connected him and blackrose (I forgot her name in the anime so I use her game name)
[18:33] Jacob: The characters are developed as the series continues
[18:34] Jacob: And Mimiru and BlackRose are different people
[18:34] Tek: ..I know, but they're the same class
[18:34] Tek: So, it's close enough
[18:34] Tek: The games were good
[18:34] Tek: But I wasn't an anime fan
[18:34] Tek: Anyways
[18:34] Tek: I'll stop argueing
Session Close (iTek): Sat Nov 05 18:44:05 2005

Now I realize that opinions are like assholes, but seriously, if you're going to judge something without even learning the story or just because you hate the art style, then you're a fucktard.

"Dur, anime is for fags, the art is terrible blah blah, look at me, I'm an attention whore."

That's your average idiot. Tek is certainly no idiot, but he's certainly not very smart when he judged the entire series from 9 episodes. I thought .hack//SIGN looked dumb at first, then I started watching it and became addicted to it. It's a brilliant story with deep characters that take more than one episode to describe.

Now for the counter-argument. Lots of people describe Tsukasa (The main character) as emo. But you don't see her slitting her wrists or trying to grab people's attention at every turn, so that argument is effectively destroyed. If you followed the story, you'd know Tsukasa has every right to be depressed. I mean, Jesus Christ, wouldn't you be depressed if you were trapped in an online game?! By the way, if you didn't know that Tsukasa is a girl then you might want to go back and, ya know, actually PAY ATTENTION THE DAMN SERIES. The characters all have very interesting backstories and different motives for doing what they do. While the motives may not be original for some people, they are applied in an extremely effective manner. You can actually relate to some of the characters. And to top it of, .hack//SIGN has arguably the best U.S. dub ever.

As for the music, the music does need a paticular taste to be enjoyed, but I at least gave it a chance and liked most of the soundtrack.

That's about all I have to say. I just had to point out that this is the majority opinion of .hack//SIGN. You need to actually use your brain when you watch it so you can understand it. If you're brain can't comprehend a detailed storyline, then you probably shouldn't be watching .hack//SIGN. That is all.

By the way, if you're going to IM me saying something is "gay", be prepared to be humiliated here. I respect Tek so I didn't really tear into him, but Too many people share his opinion.
