Having RPG Maker 2000 or The Games Factory does not make you a game developer.I'm serious. Everyone and their dog has RPG Maker 2000 or The Games Factory on their computers these days. And they think it makes them hotter than shit. Reality Check, people, anyone can make a game in RPG Maker 2000. I'm not saying every RM2K game is crap, I'm just saying 80% of them are because they're the same damn thing over and over again. GamingW.net is a part of the problem. They have an archive of fantastic sprites by all kinds of talented spriters, and people think they can get some made to look like their favorite video game character and slap it into RM2K, and they think they can call it a fan game. Don't get me wrong, GamingW.net is a valuable resource to people who ACTUALLY put effort into their games, but unfortunatly that isn't everyone there. As some of you may or may not know, I am the official fan game reviewer on Shadow of a Hedgehog. It's a boring job. I've gotten a total of no more than 10 game submissions. I have put up... about 3 or 4. The shitty ones? You guessed it! Random shit slapped together in RPG Maker 2000! You people who slap random shit together need to find something to hook people on to your game. Like me, I'm developing a game called "Tales of Soah", but I made my own strategy-RPG battle system from scratch. A pre-made engine and some included graphics put together do not equal a great game. Oh, that's right, I mention The Games Factory too, didn't I? I only said that because a dumbass AOL user sent me an e-mail recently. It was a game submission for SoaH, but ya know what? It's the damndest thing, this dumbass didn't even compile the the game into a runable file. And on top of that, he sent .bmp screenshots. I can tell it was The Games Factory beause of the .gam extention and the boring look of the screenshots. I could offer my words of wisdom to the n00bs who have no idea of their crimes against the game development community, but I think I would be wasting my breath. Let the hate-mail commence! Back |
